Your wedding photographs are one of the most important elements of your special day. They capture memories that will last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. I still remember looking through my grandma’s wedding prints and she chose a photographer whom she got along with and that the style of the photographer resonated with her and my grandpa. It wasn’t just pictures for her, it was a flood of memories coming back and she still remembered the day and the energy just by looking at the pictures. Wedding photographs are cherished and choosing the right photographer to capture these moments is super important and should not be an afterthought.
Alongside with securing a venue, it’s important to prioritize wedding photography as well and make it a top priority in your planning process. This means allocating a budget for it, researching different photographers, and booking early as sought-after photographers often book out more than a year in advance. To ensure the highest quality service delivered to you from our first call to showing you your wedding pictures, we often only accept a limited amount of wedding throughout the year (round about 10-15 weddings). Keep in mind that the most expensive or the cheapest photographer may not always be the best fit for you. There are plenty of other factors to consider. To help you out with that, I’ve put together a list:
Yes, yes, sometimes a friend or a loving family member who has their own camera would volunteer to take your wedding photos but trust your gut-instincts and ask yourself whether they’re actually a good fit for you. When you book a wedding photographer, you’re booking someone with a ton of experience who can guide you throughout the day and offer valuable advice while you’re planning your wedding. They have the experience to make sure you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera, and will guide you when you’re unsure what to do next.
A professional wedding photographer will be able to capture all of those moments that another photographer or amateur photographer might miss. They’ll be standing by, ready to capture the natural, unguarded moments of you and your partner, from stolen glances to the loving way your partner squeezes your hand and even how your gown flows. They’ll also capture all the stunning decor details you’ve been carefully planning since you got engaged. You definitely want to have those pictures!
Choosing a wedding photographer is not just about their style, it’s also about their personality and how well you get along and vibe with them. Imagine, your wedding photographer will be there with you the entire day from the intimate moments of getting ready all the way to your reception, it’s so important for you to feel comfortable in their presence. Do you think they’ll also get along with your family members and friends? If yes, then you’re on the right path.
When I say, make sure you choose a photographer that ‘gets you’, this means that they understand your wedding vision and they care about what elements within your wedding day that’s important to you. One of the best ways to gauge how you’ll feel with them is to schedule an in-person or online meeting. This is an opportunity to chat with them, ask them any questions you have, and trust me, you’ll know right away. It’s kind of like when you meet someone for the first time, you already have a feeling whether you like them or not based on their energy. Ultimately, it’s important to choose a wedding photographer with whom you feel a strong connection, as they’ll be responsible for capturing the memories of one of the most important day of your life.
When you come across a photographer whose work resonates with you, you’ll know it right way. How? Some important questions to ask yourself is do the pictures make you feel something? Do you like how they capture a couple’s story and their most important family members and guests on the big day? Browsing through their website and blog is often recommended over their Instagram highlights or posts because from the galleries, you get a good sense of how they capture the entire day for you.
However, keep in mind that asking a photographer to change their style to fit your own style preference won’t work and you might not like the results of the pictures so it’s important to choose a photographer whose work aligns with your own style and vision as a couple.
To get the best results, it’s important to have confidence in your chosen photographer and trust them to capture the moments organically they naturally unfolds, that is when the magic happens :).
If you resonate with my work, I would love to hear from you about capturing your big day! Get in touch right here, and I’ll for sure get back to you :).
Much love,
Jackie
